Korea Tourism Organization Recommends Holiday Destinations and Festivals for Families During Chuseok
On October 1, the Korea Tourism Organization recommended domestic travel destinations and festivals to help people make the most of the unusually long Chuseok holiday this year. The organization introduced attractions that all generations can enjoy during the holiday, as well as tourist spots that will be open to the public free of charge on Chuseok day or during the holiday period.
The Korea Tourism Organization announced that the four major palaces-Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, and Changgyeonggung-will be open to the public for free during the holiday. Other recommended destinations include the Suwon Museum of Art in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, which is suitable for the whole family, the National Institute of Korean Native Plants in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, where visitors can explore over 1,700 species of unique and rare plants native to Korea, the Wando Arboretum in Wando, Jeollanam-do, which features an arboretum, waterfront deck, valley rest area, and hiking trails, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (with locations in Seoul, Deoksugung, Gwacheon, and Cheongju), which showcases artworks from the 1910s to the present. The organization noted that opening days and free admission periods may vary by location, so visitors should check in advance.

The Royal Culture Festival will be held from October 8 to 12, offering tailored programs for each generation, such as "Donggwal Jangwonseo" for seniors, "Jongmyo Architecture Exploration Team" for teenagers, and "Junmyeongdang Children's School" for children. Until October 12, the 2025 National Heritage Media Art event will take place at the Goryeong Jisan-dong Tumuli in North Gyeongsang Province, where visitors can enjoy "Light Heading to the Sky," an immersive experience reflecting the worldview of the ancient Daegaya people, set to the music of the gayageum.
Information about free admission tourist attractions and festivals during the holiday can be found in the October issue of "Korea Travel Log" and on the Korea Travel Log Naver blog, both operated by the Korea Tourism Organization.
