Judge Kim Eunji, who is in charge of warrants at the Gunsan Branch of Jeonju District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A (41), who is suspected of murder and abandoning a corpse, about an hour after completing the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review) at 4 p.m. on September 30.
Judge Kim stated that the warrant was issued due to concerns about destruction of evidence and the risk of flight.
Earlier, when Mr. A appeared in court, he repeatedly said "I'm sorry" in response to reporters' questions such as "Why did you kill your girlfriend?" and "Why did you keep the body in a kimchi refrigerator?"
Mr. A is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Ms. B (in her 40s), at a villa in Jochon-dong, Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, on October 20 last year, and abandoning her body in a kimchi refrigerator.
After the crime, he continued to communicate with her family using the victim's mobile phone, pretending that Ms. B was still alive.
When the police, who became suspicious, contacted him, he instructed another woman he was living with to answer the call instead. However, after repeated questioning by the police, this woman confessed, saying, "I am not Ms. B," which led to the crime being uncovered after 11 months.
