KOSPI Surges Past 3,450 Ahead of Holiday, Continues Upward Momentum
Foreign and Institutional Investors Lead Early Net Buying
Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the KOSPI has once again surpassed the 3,450 mark. The KOSDAQ is also showing strength, approaching the 850 level.
On October 1, the KOSPI opened at 3,444.06, up 0.57% from the previous day. The index continued to climb, reaching 3,450.09 as of 9:22 a.m.
It appears that simultaneous net buying by foreign investors and institutions has driven the index upward. They recorded net purchases of 165.8 billion won and 66.6 billion won, respectively. Individual investors posted net sales of 228.7 billion won.
Nearly all sectors are on the rise. The machinery and equipment sector saw the largest increase at 1.71%, followed by electrical and electronics (1.32%), pharmaceuticals (0.87%), medical and precision equipment (0.77%), transportation equipment and parts (0.77%), and distribution (0.60%). Only a few sectors, such as electric and gas (-0.90%) and textiles and apparel (-0.81%), declined.
Most of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization are also rising. Doosan Enerbility (2.2%), SK Hynix (2.0%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (1.5%), Samsung Electronics (1.1%), Samsung Biologics (1.0%), Hyundai Motor (0.7%), KB Financial Group (0.2%), and Hanwha Aerospace (0.1%) posted notable gains. Only NAVER (-3.3%) and LG Energy Solution (-1.5%) declined.
The KOSDAQ is also performing well. It opened at 846.32, up 0.51% from the previous day, and climbed to 849.80.
In the KOSDAQ market, individual and institutional investors posted net purchases of 3.1 billion won and 9.8 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors recorded net sales of 5.1 billion won.
Most sectors are also rising in the KOSDAQ. Several sectors, including machinery and equipment (1.64%), metals (1.45%), non-metals (1.42%), distribution (1.17%), general services (1.15%), and electrical and electronics (1.06%), rose by more than 1%. Financials (-0.74%), telecommunications (-0.70%), and paper and wood (-0.36%) declined.

Most of the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization are also rising. LIG ChemBio posted the largest gain at 3.2%, followed by ABL Bio (2.7%), Alteogen (1.5%), Peptron (0.8%), HLB (0.7%), and PharmaResearch (0.6%). Ecopro (-0.9%) and Ecopro BM (-0.8%) declined.
