Resolving Inconvenience for Large Vehicles
On August 26, Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it has been focusing on the installation of roundabouts within the city center since the 7th popularly elected administration, aiming to enhance urban competitiveness and provide advanced transportation services.
Starting with the Geochang Bridge South End Roundabout, the county has recently installed a total of 18 roundabouts, including those at Gimcheon Intersection and Jangpal Intersection. These efforts have been credited with improving vehicle flow within the city, reducing traffic accidents, lowering emissions, and increasing resident satisfaction.
In addition, to resolve the inconvenience experienced by large vehicles, the county is currently working on improving the Handeul Bridge South End Roundabout. Once the project is completed in September, the roundabout installation projects at major intersections in the city center will be virtually finished.
The Handeul Bridge South End Roundabout was established in 2023 to improve the poor traffic conditions caused by the installation of a roundabout in front of the nearby Koaru Apartments and the opening of the Daepyeong-ri bypass road. At the time, acquiring land was difficult due to the incorporation of nearby residential properties, so the roundabout was built to accommodate small vehicles. Since then, complaints about inconvenience for large vehicles have continued to be raised.
Subsequently, as the existing houses were demolished for the construction of new apartments in the Sae Dongnae area of Daepyeong-ri, the land that initially needed to be acquired became available. As a result, it became possible to install a roundabout suitable for large vehicles, leading to the current improvement project.
