Ourhome's 'Cheongip Kimchi' Launches in Costco Stores Across 12 Countries
Entry into Costco Stores in Japan, Taiwan, and Australia Completed
Expansion to Nine Additional Countries Including North America and Europe Planned by Year-End
Ourhome is launching a global campaign to target the international kimchi market with its 'Cheongip Kimchi' at the forefront. Cheongip Kimchi is a product that won the Grand Prix at last year's SIAL Paris, the world's leading food exhibition.
On August 21, Ourhome announced that Cheongip Kimchi has completed entry into Costco stores in Japan, Taiwan, and Australia, and that the company plans to gradually expand its presence to a total of 12 Costco stores worldwide by the end of this year.
Cheongip Kimchi has been entering global Costco stores since last month. Starting with 37 stores in Japan on July 14, it expanded to 14 stores in Taiwan on July 28, and to 15 stores in Australia on August 7. Going forward, the product will be launched in nine additional countries: the United States, Canada, New Zealand, China, the United Kingdom, Spain, Iceland, Sweden, and France.
Cheongip Kimchi was awarded the Grand Prix at the international food exhibition '2024 SIAL PARIS'. After receiving the award, Ourhome collaborated with Costco headquarters in the United States for about eight months to develop a global launch product, optimizing both flavor and packaging to meet the export standards of each country. The company also adopted eco-friendly packaging materials in line with Costco's sustainability policy.
Costco reportedly gave positive feedback during taste tests, noting that Cheongip Kimchi is distinct from traditional kimchi. Although Cheongip (green cabbage leaves) is rich in phytochemicals, its coarse texture has limited its use. Through the development of a low-temperature fermentation technique and a new recipe, Ourhome has preserved the unique nutty flavor and resilient texture of Cheongip while creating kimchi with a deep, savory taste.
Starting with Cheongip Kimchi, Ourhome plans to expand the entry of various kimchi products into Costco stores and to actively increase global exports, focusing on key regions such as North America, Europe, and Asia. Through these efforts, the company aims to further solidify its position as a leading K-Food company while promoting the globalization of Korean kimchi.
