Resentful Over 'Slow Delivery' Comment, Delivery Worker Arrested for Staging Fake Bomb Threat at Fast-Food Restaurant
Court: "Risk of Flight and No Fixed Residence"
A delivery worker who staged a fake bomb threat targeting a fast-food restaurant in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, has been arrested and detained.
On August 20, the Suwon Yeongtong Police Station announced that a detention warrant had been issued for a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means and disruption of business operations.
The court reportedly stated that the warrant was issued considering the risk of flight and the fact that the suspect does not have a fixed residence.
A is accused of posting a message on a social networking service (SNS) at around 1:07 p.m. on August 17, threatening to plant a bomb at a fast-food restaurant in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, citing delayed delivery and unkind staff. After posting the message, he pretended to be a witness and reported a suspected terrorist threat to the police by calling 112.
As a result, bomb detection operations were conducted at the restaurant, disrupting business for about one hour and forty minutes. Additionally, hundreds of people using the nine-story building where the restaurant is located were temporarily evacuated, causing further damage.
The police identified A by checking the account information shown in a screenshot of the post and apprehended him in an emergency arrest at around 4 p.m. the same day, about three hours after the incident.
According to the police investigation, A committed the crime out of resentment after a staff member at the restaurant, where he had recently been making deliveries, commented that his deliveries seemed slow.
A was found to have a previous criminal record for filing false reports and other offenses. He is not known to have any history of mental illness.
