On August 20, Mayor Kang visited the Gwangju International Archery Field in Nam-gu to examine the stadium facilities. Ahead of the tournament, he focused on checking the newly renovated stadium facilities, spectator and convenience facilities, accessibility features for people with disabilities, and safety systems.
In particular, he thoroughly rechecked the accessibility facilities to ensure that everyone, including people with disabilities, the elderly, and foreign spectators, can use the stadium without discrimination.
Previously, the city carried out extensive renovations of the stadium environment to comply with World Archery (WA) regulations. A total of 3.8 billion won was invested to expand the width of the Gwangju International Archery Field, where the preliminary and main matches will be held, from 210 meters by an additional 10 meters on each side (20 meters in total). Multipurpose spaces such as waiting rooms for athletes and equipment storage rooms were also newly established.
In addition, to ensure the safety and convenience of participating athletes and teams, the ground was leveled and new paving blocks were installed. The Archery Competition Central Control Center (DOS: Directing of Shooting) was set up to centrally manage the archery matches. At the special stadium in the May 18 Democracy Square, where the finals will be held, temporary seating for around 800 spectators will be installed.
