View original imageA new organization representing female fishery workers in the Muan region of South Jeolla Province has been launched. On August 20, Muan County announced that it held the launch ceremony for the Mokpo Suhyup Muan Women Fishery Association at the Hyangyeong-myeon Culture and Welfare Center on August 19.
The ceremony was attended by key guests including Kim San, Governor of Muan County; Lee Hosung, Chairman of the County Council; Na Gwangguk, South Jeolla Provincial Assemblyman; county council members; Song Namsu, Head of the Democratic Party’s Muan Chapter; Kim Cheongryong, President of Mokpo Suhyup; and approximately 130 members.
The association consists of a total of 34 members and is expected to establish itself as an organization representing the rights and interests of about 500 female fishery workers in Muan County in the future.
Kim Myungsook, the inaugural president, stated, "The role and importance of female fishery workers are growing ever more significant," and expressed her commitment by saying, "I will do my best to protect the pristine sea and to improve the welfare and increase the income of female fishery workers."
In his congratulatory remarks, Governor Kim San said, "The launch of the Muan Women Fishery Association marks an important turning point for the development of fishing villages and the enhancement of rights and interests for female fishery workers," and added, "The county will actively support the association’s activities."

With its launch, the Muan Women Fishery Association plans to represent the voices of female fishery workers in the field, enhance their rights and status, and engage in activities to improve welfare in fishing villages and promote regional development.
