Gwangju Shinsegae Donates "Value Soap" Made by Upcycling Used Cooking Oil
Energy-Saving Initiatives and "Give Green" Campaigns Launched
Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. donated recycled soap made from used cooking oil ahead of its 30th anniversary. Having carried out various eco-friendly initiatives such as energy-saving campaigns, Gwangju Shinsegae plans to continue taking the lead in activities that benefit the local community.
On August 20, Gwangju Shinsegae held a Value Soap donation ceremony at the Beautiful Store Uncheon branch. On this day, Gwangju Shinsegae donated a total of 1,000 items-including 400 bottles of liquid laundry soap and 600 bottles of hand sanitizer-to the Beautiful Store Gwangju Mokpo Headquarters. The donated items will be sold to citizens at Beautiful Store locations in Gwangju.
This year, as a local corporation celebrating its 30th anniversary, Gwangju Shinsegae created a soap named "Value Soap" to embody the meaning of "Together with the community, together with the environment." The initiative aimed to raise awareness and put into practice the importance of environmental protection through resource circulation activities, specifically by upcycling used cooking oil.
So far, Gwangju Shinsegae has carried out a variety of eco-friendly activities as a local corporation.
With Energy Day approaching on August 22, employees are voluntarily practicing energy conservation. They are actively participating in efforts to save precious energy by turning off office lights, maintaining an appropriate indoor temperature (26 degrees Celsius), and using stairs instead of elevators.
Earlier, in June, the company also conducted the "Give Green" campaign. Organized in celebration of Environment Day, the Give Green campaign involved collecting clothing and small home appliances from employees, selling them, and donating the proceeds to help neighbors in need. During the campaign, 105 employees donated 1,100 items, raising 4.4 million won, which was delivered to local welfare facilities.
Last year, the company made children's safety umbrellas from discarded banners and donated them to elementary schools in the region. In addition, Gwangju Shinsegae has consistently led activities such as plogging along the Gwangju Stream and in Mudeungsan Mountain, raising awareness of and putting into practice the importance of environmental protection.
