Jangheung County Ranks First Nationwide Among Counties in Health and Culture Competitiveness
Jangheung County in South Jeolla Province announced on August 20 that it ranked first nationwide among counties in the health and culture sector of the regional competitiveness evaluation.
In the "30 Years of Local Autonomy Regional Competitiveness Evaluation" conducted by the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy, Jangheung County was selected as the top institution in the health and culture sector. This evaluation comprehensively analyzed five areas-population, finance, local economy, health and culture, and environmental safety-across 226 basic local governments nationwide.
The county proved itself as a city of healing and culture by placing first among counties in the "health and culture competitiveness" category. The evaluation indicators for health and culture competitiveness included the number of health administration personnel per 1,000 residents, the awareness rate of health status, the number of students per teacher, and the number of cultural infrastructure facilities per 10,000 residents, all of which comprehensively reflect the quality of life for county residents.
The county explained that its proactive medical administration, such as integrated health promotion services and home-visit health management programs, as well as the results of customized education and cultural projects tailored to residents' needs, contributed to this achievement.
Since 1996, the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy has annually evaluated the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) for basic local governments nationwide and selected outstanding local governments.
