Chungnam Province to Invest 21.6 Billion Won to Prevent "Monster Rainstorm" Flooding in Buyeo Rabok District
Drainage Pump Station and Channel Upgrades
Aiming for Completion Before Next Year's Rainy Season
Fundamental Solution to Farmland Flooding

The province plans to complete a project that typically takes more than 18 months within just 10 months, aiming to reduce concerns about flooding before next year's rainy season.
On August 20, at the Gyuyam-myeon Administrative Welfare Center in Buyeo County, the province held a "Rabok District Drainage Improvement Project Detailed Design (Draft) Resident Briefing Session," attended by about 50 people, including local residents and officials from the provincial government, Buyeo County, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, where they announced concrete implementation plans.
The Rabok District has suffered severe damage from heavy rainfall every year. Farmland was submerged for four consecutive years: 30 hectares in 2022, 78 hectares in 2023, 21 hectares in 2024, and 13 hectares in 2025.
Although two drainage pump stations are installed near Rabokgyo, they failed to function properly as they could not withstand the inflow of more than 14 tons of rainwater per second.
In response, the province, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Rural Community Corporation, will invest 21.614 billion won to: construct a new drainage pump station capable of processing 13.5 tons per second; improve two drainage channels totaling 1.4 kilometers; and carry out land reclamation for 3.5 hectares of flooded farmland.
In particular, the drainage pump station will be completed ahead of the rainy season in June next year by minimizing administrative procedures, and the entire project will be finished by 2028, shortening the timeline by one year.
This measure follows the on-site inspection of flood damage by Governor Kim Taeheum on August 4 and Minister Song Miryeong of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs last month, during which they ordered the early construction of the Rabok District drainage pump station.

Lee Jeongsam, Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Livestock, stated, "Rabok District is an area where damage is repeated every year due to heavy rainfall, so early construction of the drainage pump station is urgent. We will minimize administrative procedures and shorten the construction period as much as possible so that farmers can feel secure next year."
