Shim Eun Kyung's "Travel and Days" Wins Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival
"A Journey Shared with the Director and Staff
Leads to a Meaningful Outcome"
The distributor At9Film announced on August 18 that the Japanese film "Travel and Days," starring Shim Eun Kyung, has won the Golden Leopard, the top prize in the International Competition section at the 78th Locarno Film Festival.
Based on the manga by Yoshiharu Tsuge, the film follows the screenwriter Ii (played by Shim Eun Kyung) as she experiences personal change after meeting Benjo (played by Shinichi Tsutsumi), the owner of a guesthouse, amidst the snowy scenery of her travels. The film is directed by Sho Miyake, who was invited to the Berlin International Film Festival three consecutive times with "And Your Bird Can Sing" (2020), "Small, Slow But Steady" (2023), and "All the Long Nights" (2024).
Regarding the award, Shim Eun Kyung said, "It was an honor to play the protagonist Ii," and added, "I am truly delighted that the journey I shared with the director and staff has led to such a meaningful outcome." Director Sho Miyake commented, "It was a moment when I could once again feel the love and trust for cinema, as well as affection for the world," and credited the cast and crew for the achievement.
