Water Begins Operation of 284 Rapid Chargers at 51 Highway Rest Areas
Establishing a Foundation for Future Growth
in the Highly Profitable and High-Utilization Highway Rapid Charging Sector
Water, the electric vehicle (EV) rapid charging network, announced on August 14, 2025, that it has completed the 2024 Korea Expressway Corporation highway rest area charging infrastructure project.
This completion was achieved by finalizing the remaining four sites from the 2024 public project-Water Gimhae Geumgwan Gaya Rest Area Changwon Direction, Water Gimhae Geumgwan Gaya Rest Area Gijang Direction, Water Jangyu Rest Area West Busan Direction, and Water Jinyeong Rest Area Suncheon Direction. Including not only rest areas managed by the Korea Expressway Corporation but also privately funded sections such as the West Inland Expressway, Water now operates a total of 284 rapid chargers across 51 highway rest areas nationwide.
Highway rest area charging stations are the most strategically valuable key locations for EV rapid charging operators. Located on routes with concentrated traffic such as expressways, these sites naturally secure high charging demand. In addition, visitors often arrive with a low state of charge (SoC), resulting in higher charging volumes per session.
The characteristics of highway rest area charging stations are expected to serve as a crucial foundation for Water's high-quality rapid charging network. With the completion of this project, Water is emerging as a top-tier domestic operator in the EV rapid charging sector and is now positioned to achieve robust growth in the market segment with the highest potential profitability and utilization rates.
