Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Wolsong Headquarters conducted a full-scale radiation disaster prevention drill at Wolsong Unit 2 on July 3, in preparation for a potential nuclear power plant accident.

View original imageThis drill was conducted as a scenario-based, non-disclosure exercise, in which the scenario of the accident was provided by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety immediately before the drill. The main focus was on training for accurate and prompt determination of emergency declaration conditions.
During the drill, activities included the mobilization of emergency personnel, real-time information sharing with relevant agencies, and medical relief for contaminated patients. The emphasis was placed on demonstrating the effectiveness of the emergency plan and ensuring safety.
Regulatory agencies, including the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, observed the emergency response facilities and the drill site. After the drill, the inspection team from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety and the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences gave positive evaluations.
In particular, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) also attended this drill. They reviewed emergency response organization operations and accident assessment activities, and recognized the excellence of Korea's emergency response activities for CANDU-type nuclear power plants.
Jung Wonho, head of the Wolsong Headquarters, stated, "We will continue to assess our employees' emergency response capabilities to ensure that we can always operate the nuclear power plant safely, regardless of any disaster situation, and will strive to maintain the safety of the nuclear power plant at all times."
