IYEL Receives First National Strategic Technology Certification in Quantum Field
Also Received the Minister of Science and ICT Award at Quantum Korea 2025
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning announced on the 24th that the 'quantum random number generator' technology developed by IYEL (CEO Jung Buseok) has been designated as a national strategic technology.
The Ministry of Science and ICT expects that IYEL's quantum cryptography and quantum cryptographic communication technology, which generate random numbers using the randomness of quantum phenomena, will enhance security and make communications even more secure.
The 'National Strategic Technology Confirmation System' is a system established under Article 9 of the Special Act on the Promotion of National Strategic Technologies. It determines whether technologies possessed, managed, or developed by entities such as industry, academia, and research institutes qualify as 'national strategic technologies.'
Companies confirmed to 'possess or manage' national strategic technologies are eligible for 'super-gap technology special listing.' In addition, companies confirmed to 'possess, manage, or develop' national strategic technologies receive benefits such as additional points when selected as designated military service companies and support through policy finance.
Kang Sangwook, Director General of Science and Technology Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, explained, "This review is particularly meaningful as it is the first confirmation in the quantum field among the 12 national strategic technology sectors."
