Trump: "I Want Iran's Complete Abandonment of Nuclear Weapons"
Considering Sending a Special Envoy
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 17th (local time) that he intends to demand Iran's complete abandonment of nuclear weapons, stating that he seeks the "true end" to the Iranian nuclear issue, according to reports from CBS and other U.S. media outlets.
President Trump made these remarks in an interview with a CBS reporter aboard Air Force One while returning home from the Group of Seven (G7) summit held in Canada.
President Trump predicted that if Iran does not give up its nuclear ambitions, Israel would not ease its offensive posture. He stated, "We will find out within the next two days. So far, no one has slowed down."
He also addressed the possibility of sending Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance to Iran, saying, "That is possible," and added, "I will return to Washington, D.C. and assess the situation."
