The Department of Oriental Medicinal Materials at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Youngdo) held the third lecture of the "20th Anniversary Expert Relay Special Lecture Series" on May 28.
This relay lecture series is held once a month from March to November to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the department's establishment. The event is made possible through the voluntary contributions of participating experts and support from alumni. Experts in fields such as Korean medicine, pharmacy, and health nutrition are delivering lectures to current students.
The third lecture was given by Dr. Seokjae Park from the Busan Association of Korean Medicine's External Herbal Dispensary, under the theme "Understanding and Consuming Health Functional Foods for My Body." Dr. Park explained the concept of "Mibyeong," the stage between health and disease, and discussed the differences between health functional foods and pharmaceuticals, as well as important precautions for consumers. He also emphasized the importance of dietary and lifestyle habits, and expressed hope for improved access to accurate health information.
Student Kyungju Jeong (Class of 2025) said, "I was impressed by the point that not everything that's considered healthy should be consumed," and added, "I plan to start by changing my lifestyle habits for the sake of my family's health."
