This project involves purchasing and renovating long-abandoned vacant houses to create community facilities such as parking lots and pocket parks for residents. The project will be carried out in each district: 2 locations in Dong-gu, 1 in Jung-gu, 1 in Seo-gu, and 1 in Daedeok-gu.
The city plans to enhance budget efficiency by linking with national government-funded projects, and will continuously expand various forms of community infrastructure such as community spaces, small parks, and parking lots for local residents.
In the past, the city purchased and converted 13 vacant houses into community facilities: 7 in 2023 and 6 in 2024.
Choi Youngjun, Director of Urban Housing for Daejeon City, said, "By promoting both the Daejeon-style vacant house maintenance project and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's national government-funded project together, we are now able to expand local infrastructure more quickly and efficiently. We expect this will help revitalize old city areas, improve the urban landscape, and have positive effects on preventing safety accidents and crime."
