Goryeong County Implements Strong Measures Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease... Begins Vaccinating All Livestock
Goryeong-gun (Governor Lee Namcheol) is strengthening quarantine measures to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) into the region following a recent outbreak in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. The county will conduct emergency FMD vaccinations for all cloven-hoofed livestock, including cattle, pigs, goats, and deer.
This round of FMD vaccinations will continue until the 22nd, and all animals, except for calves under two months old, must be promptly vaccinated without exception.
Depending on the scale of the farm, professional farmers raising 50 or more cattle, 1,000 or more pigs, or 300 or more goats are required to purchase vaccines themselves and administer the shots. For farms with fewer than 50 cattle, 1,000 pigs, or 300 goats, a local veterinarian will visit the farm to carry out the vaccinations. In addition, female farmers and those over 70 years old who have difficulty vaccinating their livestock themselves can receive assistance from a veterinarian, even if they are self-vaccinating farms.
Lee Namcheol, Governor of Goryeong-gun, emphasized, "If FMD occurs even once, it can cause tremendous damage to the local livestock industry. All farmers must ensure that their animals are vaccinated and thoroughly implement quarantine measures such as farm disinfection to prevent an outbreak in our region."

Given the serious situation caused by the outbreak and spread of FMD in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, Goryeong-gun plans to impose a fine of up to 10 million KRW without reduction on farms that refuse vaccination or fail to achieve sufficient antibody formation after vaccination, in accordance with the 'Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act.'
Goryeong County will administer foot-and-mouth disease vaccines to all livestock.
