[Featured Stock] Samhwa Paint, Collaboration with KAIST Researchers Increases Following Development of '15-Minute Full Charge' Technology for Electric Vehicles
Samwha Paint is showing strong performance. This is interpreted as being influenced by news that a research team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has developed a technology to fully charge electric vehicle batteries at room temperature within 15 minutes.
As of 10:26 AM on the 17th, Samwha Paint is trading at 6,530 KRW, up 4.98% compared to the previous day.
According to industry sources, a research team led by Professor Choi Nam-soon from KAIST’s Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering collaborated with Professor Hong Seung-beom’s team from KAIST’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering to develop a new electrolyte solvent called isoButyronitrile (isoBN), creating a strategy for fast charging electric vehicle batteries by maximizing lithium-ion movement within the battery.
By optimizing the formation of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), a key component of the battery’s anode interface, they facilitated smooth lithium-ion movement and addressed issues arising during fast charging (such as lithium plating and battery lifespan reduction), thereby establishing a foundation to improve the charging speed of lithium-ion batteries.
The researchers introduced the isoBN solvent, which forms weak bonds with lithium ions, and developed a high-ion-conductivity electrolyte system with 55% lower viscosity (1.52 cP) and 54% higher ionic conductivity (12.80 S/cm) compared to EC electrolytes.
The study results showed that the isoBN electrolyte significantly reduces the lithium-ion desolvation energy, maintaining a very high capacity retention rate of 94.2% without irreversible lithium plating on the upper part of the anode even after 300 cycles of 15-minute fast charging.

Meanwhile, Samwha Paint announced last year that it conducted performance evaluations through a private entrusted project with Professor Choi Nam-soon’s team and obtained a patent for the “Manufacturing of Electrolyte Additives for Lithium Secondary Batteries.” This technology involves an electrolyte composition that maintains the efficiency and energy of lithium metal batteries at a high charging voltage of 4.4 volts (V).
