Foreigners and Institutions Switch from Net Buying to Net Selling... KOSPI Retreats to 2530 Level
On the 4th, the KOSPI, which had been on an upward trend, turned downward. The index declined as foreigners and institutions, who had been net buyers, switched to net sellers.
As of 2:21 PM on the same day, the KOSPI recorded 2,532.39, down 0.39 points (0.02%) from the previous trading day.
The index started the day higher due to simultaneous net buying by foreigners and institutions in the early session. It even rose to 2,548.78. However, as institutions turned to net selling followed by foreigners, the gains were surrendered.
By investor type, according to the Korea Exchange, foreigners and institutions net sold 131 billion KRW and 162.6 billion KRW, respectively. Meanwhile, individuals net bought 177.6 billion KRW.
By sector, the medical and precision industries fell 3.40%, while chemicals, machinery & equipment, entertainment & culture, IT services, and textiles & apparel all declined by more than 1%. On the other hand, transportation equipment & parts rose 4.55%, and transportation & warehousing increased by 1.94%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics traded at 54,700 KRW, up 200 KRW (0.37%) from the previous day. Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Ocean surged 14.65% and 13.32%, respectively. Conversely, LG Energy Solution dropped 5.40%, while SK Hynix and Hyundai Motor fell 2.00% and 1.24%, respectively.
The KOSDAQ recorded 737.17, down 6.79 points (0.91%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, individuals and foreigners net bought 10.8 billion KRW and 13.4 billion KRW, respectively. Institutions, however, net sold 16.8 billion KRW.
By sector, finance fell 4.12%, and medical & precision instruments declined 3.35%. Additionally, electrical & electronics, chemicals, and publishing & media reproduction sectors dropped more than 2%. Conversely, transportation equipment & parts and pharmaceuticals rose more than 1%.

Among the top market capitalization stocks, Alteogen traded at 401,000 KRW, up 14,000 KRW (3.62%) from the previous day. Voronoi surged 19.43%, while Pharma Research and Kolon TissueGene rose 7.04% and 6.75%, respectively. Conversely, Classys fell 9.67%, and EcoPro BM and EcoPro declined more than 6%.
