Although the perpetrators of the bomb attack have not yet appeared, it is presumed that regional armed groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which advocates separatist independence within Balochistan, carried out the attack. This group has opposed China's Belt and Road Initiative (land and maritime Silk Road) projects in Balochistan province and has previously carried out attacks targeting Chinese workers involved in infrastructure projects.
