KCC Launches Fact-Finding on KT's Mass Cancellation of Galaxy S25 Pre-Orders
Aggressive Pre-Order Promotions Announced,
Then Limited to First 1,000 Customers...
Registrations Closed and Orders Canceled
The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 13th that it has launched a fact-finding investigation into mobile carrier KT's mass cancellation of pre-orders for Samsung Electronics' new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25.
Earlier, KT had promoted various aggressive discount events during the Galaxy S25 pre-order period, including numerous coupons and trade-in offers for used phones, but canceled a significant portion of the pre-orders as demand surged.
KT informed customers whose reservations were canceled that "The Galaxy S25 pre-order you applied for was subject to a 'limited to the first 1,000 customers' notice that was omitted, resulting in this situation. Since the first-come, first-served registration ended early, cancellations are unavoidable."
However, consumers raised suspicions that KT hastily changed the event details because it could not bear the marketing costs.
As consumer protests intensified, the Korea Communications Commission initiated a fact-finding investigation to determine whether KT violated the prohibited acts regulations under the Telecommunications Business Act.
