Southeast Asia Smartphone Market Dominated by Chinese Companies... Samsung Ranks 4th
Samsung Electronics' smartphones, which held the number one market share in Southeast Asia, have fallen to fourth place. The top positions were all occupied by Chinese companies.
According to market research firm Canalys on the 11th, based on shipment volume in the fourth quarter of last year, Transsion took first place for the first time in the Southeast Asian smartphone market with a 17% share, followed by Oppo and Xiaomi, each with 16%.
Samsung Electronics recorded a 15% market share and ranked fourth, closely pursued by Chinese company Vivo with 14%. Apple and Realme each held a 9% share.
Transsion is a Chinese low-cost smartphone manufacturer that sells smartphones priced between 100,000 and 200,000 KRW in the African and South Asian markets.
In the first quarter of 2022, when Samsung Electronics was the overwhelming leader with over 25% market share in the Southeast Asian market, Transsion was ranked fifth with less than 10% market share. However, it recorded first place for the first time in the fourth quarter of last year. This was analyzed to be due to strong new product launches in Indonesia and the Philippines.
