Paju-si, Public Electric Vehicle Sharing Service for Officials Receives Positive Response
Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) has received positive responses from citizens for the 'Official Vehicle Citizen Sharing Service' that started on July 15 last year.
According to Paju City on the 3rd, this service involves Paju City leasing 10 eco-friendly electric vehicles of Kia Motors' 'Weeble Biz' model, using them as official vehicles during working hours and sharing them with citizens at a low cost outside working hours.
Paju City announced that during the six months since the sharing service began, there were 748 uses for commuting and weekend vehicle use by citizens (2,992 people based on a family of four), and a high usage rate of 1,360 uses for staff work vehicles.
Additionally, since Kia Motors partially covers insurance premiums and maintenance costs, the city analyzed that about 20 million KRW in vehicle management costs have been saved.
The sharing service (Weeble Biz) is provided to citizens at costs 30 to 70% cheaper than the market price. The fees are 10,000 KRW for returning the vehicle after work on weekdays by the next morning, 95,000 KRW for weekend use (Friday afternoon to Monday morning), and 150,000 KRW for four weeks when returning the vehicle after work on weekdays by the next morning.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City said, “The official vehicle citizen sharing service is expected not only to help improve mobility convenience and welfare for more citizens but also to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by promoting the use of electric vehicles.”
