Twelve New Commissioners Appointed to the Korea Copyright Commission
Emphasis on Adapting to Rapid Changes in the Copyright Industry
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on January 22 that it has newly appointed twelve members to the Korea Copyright Commission.
The new commissioners are: Kang Taeuk, attorney at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC; Kim Yunseon, presiding judge at Suwon District Court; Kim Hyeongji, attorney at Kim & Chang; Park Junwoo, professor at Sogang University Law School; An Jeongmin, professor at Hallym University Department of Convergence Forensic Science; Yang Jihae, CEO of Character Plan; Lee Gwanggeun, professor at Seoul National University Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Lee Uichun, president of the Korea Internet Newspaper Association; Lee Cheolnam, professor at Chungnam National University Law School; Lee Heonhee, professor at Gyeongsang National University Department of Intellectual Property Convergence; Lim Yangmi, professor at Duksung Women’s University Department of IT Media Engineering; and Cha Sangyuk, professor at Kyungpook National University Law School. Their term will last for three years, until January 2028.

On this day, the commission held a general meeting and appointed Cha Sangyuk, a new member, as vice chair. Going forward, the commission will handle matters such as mediating copyright disputes, reviewing commission and royalty rates for copyright trust management organizations, and establishing order in the use of copyrighted works as well as promoting fair use. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon stated, "With the rapid development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the environment of the copyright industry is also changing rapidly," and urged, "I hope the Korea Copyright Commission will make even greater efforts to protect the rights and interests of creators and to promote the fair and smooth use of copyrighted works."
