Seongbuk-gu Holds Eco-Friendly Rice Tasting Event and Selects Six Suppliers

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held an 'Eco-friendly Rice Evaluation Meeting' on the 17th at the Seoul Samseon Elementary School cafeteria to supply excellent ingredients for school meals and selected six eco-friendly rice companies.

View original imageSeven companies that passed the document screening and on-site inspection conducted since March participated in the evaluation meeting. About 100 evaluators, consisting of students, parents, and nutrition teachers, conducted the assessment.
The final selected companies are Gosan Agricultural Cooperative, Naju Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Joint Business Corporation, Namnong Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, Damyang-gun Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Joint Business Corporation, Dongmak Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, and Insu Agricultural Cooperative Corporation (in alphabetical order).
The selected companies will sign agreements with Seongbuk-gu Office for stable ingredient supply and will supply eco-friendly rice to kindergartens and schools in Seongbuk-gu through autonomous contracts for three years starting from March next year. During the agreement period, Seongbuk-gu Office will continue on-site monitoring and safety inspections such as residual pesticide tests to manage the quality of eco-friendly rice.

Samseon Elementary School, located in Samseon-dong, Seongbuk-gu, was the first in Seoul to start free school meals in 2010.
