Dobong-gu Care Seniors' Cherished 'Companion Plants' Exhibition
Dobong-gu to Hold Exhibition for Companion Plant Distribution Project in the Lobby of the District Office 1st Floor from 20th to 22nd
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will hold a companion plant distribution project exhibition in the lobby on the first floor of Dobong-gu Office for three days from November 20 to 22.
The exhibition will showcase companion plants cultivated by elderly residents receiving customized care services in the area from June to November.
The companion plant distribution project is a program in which the district distributes companion plants to elderly recipients of customized care services to alleviate feelings of depression and loneliness.
“Companion plants” is a newly coined term referring to plants that provide emotional interaction and comfort like a friend. According to various studies, companion plants are known to be effective in reducing stress and helping emotional stability.
Previously, the district distributed companion plants twice to 592 elderly recipients of customized care services and dispatched horticultural therapists to provide education on plant care methods.
The exhibition consists of a companion plant display area decorated with 150 photographic works and 150 potted plants, as well as a photo zone for taking pictures. The exhibition period is from November 20 to 22, and anyone interested in companion plants can freely visit and view it.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We will continue to implement various horticultural projects such as the companion plant distribution project to promote emotional stability and vitality in the lives of the elderly.”
Last July, the district became the first autonomous district in Seoul to enact an ordinance stipulating necessary matters for the creation and support of companion plant culture.
The ordinance includes the responsibilities of the district mayor related to the companion plant project, promotion and support projects, publicity, and the establishment of cooperation systems.
