Yangju City Getting Closer to Citizens Through Books
2024 Yangju-si Buk Festival Successfully Concluded
Yang Soo-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, is delivering a congratulatory speech at the "2024 Yangju City Book Festival" held on the 20th at Yangjugwana Site, under the theme "Yangju Aeseo (Love for Books)."
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 21st that it successfully held the "2024 Yangju Book Festival" under the theme "Yangju Aeseo (愛書)" at the Yangju Gwana site on the 20th.
This festival served as a reading culture promotion event reflecting on a year-long journey with books, attracting many citizens who experienced various reading culture activities such as performances, exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and book picnics.
The opening ceremony began with the screening of the 2024 Book of the Year activity video, followed by an awards ceremony recognizing contributions to the revitalization of small libraries leading the local reading culture.
On the green lawn of Yangju Gwana site, a book picnic zone where people could read while enjoying busking performances was set up, along with a musical program and an activity zone featuring forest playground experiences, allowing citizens to enjoy books and music in nature and heal.
Additionally, over 20 experience booths reflecting the characteristics of various institutions were actively operated with participation from public libraries, private small libraries, local reading clubs, bookstores, and literary organizations.
In particular, the book picnic received great interest and response from citizens and will be expanded and operated as a representative project of the Yangju City Library in 2025 to bring it closer to citizens, enabling them to encounter and enjoy reading culture in their daily lives.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju said, "We will create a richer reading environment that enhances citizens' reading values and ignites their passion for reading to make Yangju a 'city that reads books.'"
