Dobong-gu, VR-Based Safety and Health Training for On-Site Workplace Supervisors
Increase Educational Engagement with VR-Based Learning
“Ah!”. Trainees wearing VR (Virtual Reality) devices shouted in response to the situation unfolding before their eyes.
This was during the safety and health training held on the 14th at Jaunbong Hall, Dobong-gu Office. Supervisors participating in the training experienced accidents that could occur at various industrial sites such as construction sites through VR.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) transformed the traditional theory-centered safety and health training into experiential training. This was to enhance actual on-site response capabilities and raise awareness about safety accidents.
The training consisted of activities in various hypothetical situations, including fall accidents at construction sites and suffocation accidents during manhole work.
Conducting the class through VR led to high participation from the trainees. One trainee shared, “Although it was a virtual experience, I went through a terrible experience three times. It made me think that I need to carefully follow safety rules on site.”
After about an hour of experiential training, an industrial safety instructor conducted a session. In the following training, the instructor provided detailed explanations starting with feedback on the safety accidents experienced earlier, the duties and roles of supervisors, and matters related to industrial safety and health accident prevention.
The district plans to further expand this type of experiential safety and health training in the future. In the second half of the year, a hearing protection program is planned, which will include safety accident prevention rule education and practical training on wearing various protective gear.
