The stock prices of paper and pulp companies surged significantly following novelist ‘Han Kang’ winning the Nobel Prize in Literature. As orders for related books poured in, the paper stocks, which had been in a long-term stable range after the publishing stocks, were also pushed up.
As of 2:05 PM on the 14th, the stock price of Hankook Paper was 1,233 won, up 18.67% from the previous day's closing price. The price started off stable in the morning but surged sharply in the afternoon.
Moorim Paper is also showing an increase in the 5% range. It is currently trading at 2,255 won, up 5.87% from the previous day's closing price.
The stock price of Moorim P&P, which produces pulp, a raw material for paper, also showed an increase in the 2% range. Hansol Paper also rose 2.95% in trading.
The news of Han Kang’s Nobel Prize win has led to a flood of orders for related books, raising expectations that demand for printing paper will surge, which is affecting the stock prices of paper and pulp companies.
A securities industry official said, "Hansol Paper, Moorim Paper, and Hankook Paper are companies that mainly produce printing paper used for book production," adding, "The explosive increase in orders for novelist Han Kang’s books is expected to boost demand for printing paper, which has pushed up the stock prices of related companies."

Publishing companies have also seen their stock prices soar for two consecutive days. Hanse Yes24 Holdings has recorded the upper price limit for two consecutive days following the previous day. Samsung Publishing also rose 9.91% on this day, following a 14% increase the day before.
