Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed the world's first ultra-small all-solid-state battery for wearable devices, known as the "battery of dreams."
According to industry sources on the 22nd, the all-solid-state battery for wearables developed by Samsung Electro-Mechanics has an energy density of 200Wh/L, the highest level in the industry. This means a battery with a volume of 1 liter can supply 100W of power for one hour. The higher the energy density, the more feasible it is to produce high-capacity batteries.
Currently, prototype evaluations are underway with customers, and if the tests are passed, mass production is planned at the Busan plant in the first half of 2026. It is expected to be first applied to Samsung Electronics' wearable devices such as Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch, and Galaxy Buds.

All-solid-state batteries use non-flammable solid electrolytes necessary for charging and discharging, making them safe and resistant to external shocks. Additionally, they offer high freedom of shape, allowing production in various forms such as flat shapes, polygons, and curved surfaces, attracting attention as next-generation batteries.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics utilized various technological know-how from its multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) business to develop an oxide-based small all-solid-state battery that achieves the same level of energy density as lithium-ion batteries but in a smaller size.
So far, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has secured numerous patents related to oxide-based all-solid-state batteries in preparation for commercialization. Over the past three years, it has filed more than 40 patents overseas, including the composition of the core solid electrolyte material and the unique battery structure design.

Jang Deok-hyun, President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, stated at the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, CES 2024, last January, "We will develop small all-solid-state batteries for wearables by utilizing the firing process and ceramic technology used in MLCC."
