Dongseo University Asia Future Design Institute Publishes Inaugural Issue of Design Futures
Asia Future Design Institute, affiliated with Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk), announced on the 10th that it is launching a new academic publication to establish a scholarly foundation for future design research from a multidisciplinary perspective.
With a focus on design research rooted in the regions of Asia, Korea, and Busan, the institute actively conducts studies on Korean and Asian design culture. Rather than relying on theories and methodologies produced in the West, it aims to build a system of Korean design education based on Asian and Korean cultural arts.
Although global interest and research in future design are expanding, there is a lack of academic journals specializing in the field. To address how design can explore and shape desirable futures and to contribute to the advancement of multidisciplinary academic research, the institute is publishing 'Design Futures.'
As its first initiative, the inaugural issue of 'Design Futures' (English title: Design Futures Journal: DFJ) was recently published.
The first issue features a total of four papers submitted on various topics, including design innovation, design methodology, and convergence research.
Lee Soonjong, Professor Emeritus of the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University and advisor to Design Futures, stated, "Design Futures is a timely and essential academic journal as it focuses on research activities that plan, explore, and propose the creation of future value based on the discipline of design."
Jang Jooyoung (Dongseo University), editor-in-chief of Design Futures at the institute, said, "Design Futures aims to reevaluate the existing human-centered design paradigm and establish an academic foundation for future design research. By sharing diverse ideas and experiences, we hope it will serve as a forum for discussing ways to bring about desirable social, economic, and environmental changes in the future, contributing to the creation of a better tomorrow together."
The journal will be published twice a year, in August and February, and will be accessible to everyone on the website. 'Design Futures' will begin as a general academic journal, with the goal of becoming a registered academic journal in the future.
