Azalea Flower Sea... 'Yeosu Yeongchwisan' Area to Be Designated as Natural Heritage
Rocks, Stones, and Water Streams Harmonize with Azalea Colonies
In spring, the area around Yeongchwisan Mountain in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, which is spectacularly adorned with azaleas, will become a natural heritage site.
The National Heritage Agency announced on the 9th that it will designate the 'Yeosu Yeongchwisan Heungguksa Area' as a scenic site. Opinions from various sectors will be gathered for a month, and after review by the Natural Heritage Committee, the designation will be finalized.
It has long been renowned for its beautiful scenery. Various shapes of rocks and stones, along with streams, harmonize with the azalea colonies. From the summit, you can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Yeosu Peninsula.
Heungguksa Temple, located at the foot of Yeongchwisan, has been regarded as a symbolic place of patriotic Buddhism, true to its name meaning "to prosper the nation." Currently, eleven treasures including the 'Yeosu Heungguksa Daeungjeon' and 'Yeosu Heungguksa Honggyo' are designated as national treasures.
