Gwangjin-gu Operates Summer Vacation Volunteer Experience School for Youth
August 7-14 Volunteer Experience School for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students
Experience Environmental Love and Sharing Practice at Once, Lowering the Threshold for Volunteering
Upcycled Items Like Used Leather Pencil Cases and Pendants Donated to Local Welfare Facilities
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is operating a youth volunteer experience school during the summer vacation.
The youth volunteer experience school is a program where young people can experience volunteer activities easily accessible in daily life and practice sharing. It is promoted annually to raise awareness of the value of volunteering and to help participants continuously engage in sharing activities.
The volunteer experience school, held from August 7 to 14, will take place over seven sessions at the Gwangjin-gu Volunteer Center meeting room. A total of 105 elementary, middle, and high school students will participate and receive environmental education on topics such as the climate crisis, resource circulation, and fine dust.
After the education sessions, eco-friendly experiential activities will follow, including making sun catchers and pendants using glass discarded in the sea, pencil cases using waste leather, and topiary making. The upcycled items will be delivered to welfare facilities within the district.
At the ‘Gwangjin Family Festival’ held on May 25, a volunteer promotion booth was also operated, where volunteers who visited the booth made sock yarn crafts and handwritten letters, which were delivered to about 100 elderly residents in the district through the Junggok Social Welfare Center.
In addition, the district is striving to spread a culture of volunteering through specialized volunteer education, visiting volunteer programs, volunteer camps, and events commemorating Volunteer Day.
