Dobong-gu Provides Full Support to Heatwave-Vulnerable Groups
Support for Cooling Costs, Seoul-style Emergency Welfare Support, and Distribution of Cooling Devices Linked to Private Organization Sponsorship
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is strengthening protection measures for heat-vulnerable groups in anticipation of the full onset of the heatwave following this rainy season.
The district plans to promptly provide livelihood support, housing support, and medical assistance to heat-vulnerable groups facing unexpected economic difficulties.
First, based on a survey of low-income elderly individuals collecting recyclables, the district will provide cooling cost support of 70,000 KRW per household per month for three months.
Additionally, low-income households at risk of heatwave damage will receive livelihood expenses, medical costs, and utility bill support through Seoul-style emergency support review.
In cooperation with private organizations, cooling devices such as fans will also be distributed. On the 3rd, the district received a donation of 100 fans from Gwangryunsa Temple, and on the 4th, 400 portions of summer kimchi were delivered from Seowonam Temple. All of these were distributed to heat-vulnerable groups within the community. On the 9th, 500 summer survival sharing boxes prepared through the Dobong-gu Social Welfare Council’s sharing bazaar were given to neighbors in need within the district.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu stated, “We will do our best to implement related measures so that all residents, including heat-vulnerable groups, can spend the summer safely and healthily.”
The district has established and is implementing the ‘2024 Summer Comprehensive Measures’ to minimize damage to residents caused by the summer heatwave.
The comprehensive measures include operating cooling shelters, emergency welfare support for heat-vulnerable groups, heat safety measures for outdoor workers, and major accident prevention measures.
Currently, a situation management T/F team is operating to respond quickly and effectively according to the heatwave crisis level, and residents are being informed of heatwave action guidelines through various promotional channels.
In particular, dedicated personnel for visiting health management are conducting welfare checks and health visits for elderly living alone, the frail, and homeless individuals.
