Zaram Technology Selected as Lead Institution for National Project on 'Mobility Processor'
Semiconductor design specialist company Jaram Technology announced on the 29th that it has been selected as the lead organization for a government national project and will begin developing design technology for a 'Network Processor SOC for Mobility.' Through this project, Jaram Technology plans to develop high-speed Ethernet switches for vehicles and make a full-scale entry into the rapidly growing automotive semiconductor market.
This national project is part of the 'Electronic Components Industry Technology Development' program overseen by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The total project budget is approximately 5.4 billion KRW, with the company's government-supported R&D funding amounting to 3.6 billion KRW. The overall development period extends until December 31, 2026.
The semiconductor chip to be developed through this project will be designed based on RISC-V. RISC-V is an open-source instruction set architecture (ISA) known for its flexibility and scalability, providing an economical solution suitable for various application fields.
Jaram Technology's RISC-V capabilities have already been validated through the company's XGS-PON semiconductor chip. This technology can be utilized in diverse areas such as AI chips, IoT, and robotics, featuring characteristics like high performance, low power consumption, and high reliability. The company plans to leverage its excellent RISC-V-based design technology to develop automotive Ethernet switches and secure market competitiveness.
ISO 26262 is an international standard for automotive functional safety that specifies safety requirements to prevent accidents caused by faults in electrical and electronic systems. Through this project, Jaram Technology aims to design chips compliant with ISO 26262 and obtain ASIL-B (Automotive Safety Integrity Level B) certification. ASIL-B is a safety requirement for automotive components and is an essential certification for entering the automotive semiconductor market.
