KOSPI Rises on Institutional Net Buying... Recovers 2740 Level
The KOSPI rose, recovering the 2740 level, driven by net buying from institutional investors.
On the 20th, the KOSPI closed at 2742.14, up 17.52 points (0.64%) from the previous trading day.
Early in the session, the index rose more than 1% and surpassed the 2750 level due to simultaneous net buying by foreigners and institutions. However, the gains were surrendered as foreigners switched to net selling.
By investor type, individuals and foreigners net sold 367.5 billion KRW and 17.9 billion KRW respectively, while institutions net bought 396.6 billion KRW.
By sector, food and beverage and transportation and warehousing rose more than 2%. Insurance, transportation and warehousing, and electrical and electronics also increased by more than 1%. Conversely, services and textiles and apparel fell more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 78,900 KRW, up 1,500 KRW (1.94%) from the previous trading day. Hyundai Motor and Shinhan Financial Group rose more than 2%, while Kia and KB Financial Group increased more than 1%. On the other hand, LG Energy Solution, NAVER, Samsung SDI, and LG Chem fell more than 1%.
On this day’s KOSPI, 405 stocks, including Daechang which hit the upper limit, rose, while 476 stocks declined without any hitting the lower limit. Fifty-two stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ closed at 847.08, down 7.98 points (0.93%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, individuals and foreigners net sold 67 billion KRW and 49.1 billion KRW respectively, while institutions net bought 135.3 billion KRW.
By sector, chemicals and information devices rose more than 1%. Conversely, pharmaceuticals fell 5.69%, and broadcasting services, paper and wood, non-metallic minerals, other manufacturing, textiles and apparel, and telecommunications equipment all declined more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM closed at 213,000 KRW, up 500 KRW (0.24%) from the previous trading day. EO Technics jumped 7.92%, and Enchem and Hugel rose 4.47%. HPSP and Samchundang Pharmaceutical also increased more than 1%. On the other hand, HLB plunged 29.96%, hitting the lower limit for two consecutive trading days. Classys fell 2.61%, and Celltrion Pharm dropped 1.77%.

On this day’s KOSDAQ, 501 stocks, including Roborobo and Wing Food which hit the upper limit, rose. Conversely, 1,044 stocks declined, including HLB which hit the lower limit, and 95 stocks remained unchanged.
