Graphene and Carbon Nanotube Core Domestic Technologies, Promotion of International Standards
The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that from the 22nd to the 26th, the Technical Committee on Nanoelectronic Devices (IEC/TC 113) was held both online and offline at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Seoul, with over 50 standard experts from seven countries including Korea, the United States, Japan, and Germany attending.
This committee discusses standards for nanomaterial technologies used in semiconductors, displays, and secondary batteries, areas in which Korea has strengths. Domestic experts have chaired the committee since 2022. In particular, Korea is actively leading the discussion by proposing about 20 of the 58 standards currently under review in the nano field.
At this general meeting, Korea newly proposed four international standard drafts for nanomaterials that can increase the efficiency of electric vehicles and secondary batteries and reduce charging time.
Graphene and carbon nanotubes have high strength and excellent output characteristics, which can improve the efficiency of electric vehicles and increase the energy density of batteries, thereby shortening charging times.

An official from the National Institute of Technology and Standards explained, "The standards proposed this time develop methods to evaluate the electrical properties of nanomaterials and their shielding performance against electromagnetic waves, and are expected to contribute to improving the safety and efficiency of semiconductors, electric vehicles, and secondary batteries in the future."
