On the 14th, Seoul City Naming Committee decided on the change... Final hurdle cleared
Eliminating confusion between Subway Line 7 Ttukseom Uiwonji Station and Line 2 Ttukseom Station...
Resident demand since 2008 resolved after 16 years
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced that at the Seoul City Naming Committee meeting held on the 14th, the proposal to change the subway station name from ‘TtukseomYuwonji Station’ to ‘Jayang (Ttukseom Hangang Park) Station’ was approved.
TtukseomYuwonji Station is the only subway station on Line 7 located inside a Hangang Park in Seoul.
Originally, TtukseomYuwonji Station was planned as ‘Jayang Station’ in 1992, but due to opposition from residents of Noyu-dong and as part of a policy to promote Hangang Park, the current name was decided.
With the comprehensive development of Hangang, the name of the Hangang Park changed from TtukseomYuwonji to Ttukseom Hangang Park, and Noyu-dong was integrated into Jayang-dong.
Also, since the name is similar to Ttukseom Station on Subway Line 2, confusion was frequent, leading residents to frequently request a station name change. In response, the district pursued a name change to ‘Jayang Station’ in 2018, but the Seoul City Naming Committee deferred the decision, citing its location on the outskirts of Jayang-dong.
With the 8th elected administration, the district re-initiated the station name change to resolve residents’ inconveniences and ongoing complaints. The station name was solicited last August, and after a resident preference survey and review by the Gwangjin-gu Naming Committee in January this year, the decision was made at the Seoul City Naming Committee on the 14th.
While indicating the legal dong name ‘Jayang,’ the historical significance of ‘Ttukseom’ is preserved, comprehensively considering the geographical location of Hangang Park and convenience for citizens.
It took 16 years from the first complaint requesting a station name change in 2008 until the change was made. The district plans to carefully replace and maintain station nameplates, direction signs, signboards, announcements, and route maps in preparation for the new ‘Jayang (Ttukseom Hangang Park) Station’ to ensure no inconvenience for users.
