Pukyong National University Students Publish Paper in Top International Journal on Instruments and Measurement
Master's Student Park Sebin in 'Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical'
National Pukyong University (President Jang Young-su) announced on the 1st that Se-bin Park, a master's student in the Department of Convergence Bionics Engineering for the 4th Industrial Revolution, has published a paper in a top international journal in the field of Instruments & Instrumentation (IF 8.4).
Se-bin Park published a paper titled “Fully 3D-printed, nonelectric, spring-powered syringe pump for operating microfluidic devices” (supervised by Professor Shin Jung-ho) in this international journal last January, which covers research on the fabrication of a portable syringe pump using 3D printing.
This international journal ranks in the top 0.8% of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and is the highest-ranked (1st place) journal among 63 journals in the Instruments & Instrumentation field.
In this paper, Se-bin Park proposed a method to fabricate a syringe pump that operates with a spring without requiring electricity, offering precision and portability, using a 3D printer.
A syringe pump is a device that supplies fluid at a constant volume and speed, and high accuracy and portability are required for various on-site tests and inspections.

The torque-driven (PRNTD) pump presented in this paper maintained a consistent flow rate in the range of 1.4 μL/min to 12.0 μL/min, can be easily fabricated using a 3D printer, and can be used even in the absence of electricity, making it applicable in various fields such as on-site sensing, chemical synthesis, environmental testing, and healthcare.
Se-bin Park is conducting this research with support from the National Pukyong University BK21 Project (New Senior Customized Smart Healthcare Group, led by Professor Lee Byung-il).
