Gyeonggi-do to Invest 4.7 Billion KRW This Year to Promote Premium Hanwoo Beef
Gyeonggi Province is investing 4.7 billion KRW to foster premium Hanwoo cattle.
On the 29th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will invest 4.7 billion KRW this year in five major projects under the ‘Gyeonggi Hanwoo Premiumization’ initiative to promote continuous development of the Hanwoo industry through improvement of Hanwoo breeding and establishment of a breeding foundation, and to produce high-quality and safe livestock products that consumers can trust.
First, Gyeonggi Province will invest 4.3 billion KRW to promote Hanwoo breeding among farmers and stabilize the breeding foundation. Additionally, 400 million KRW will be provided to foster the market for beef cows, expanding the market beyond just calf production to include beef cow fattening, and establishing a system for farmers to autonomously regulate supply and demand. These two projects are direct support programs for farmers and can be applied for through the livestock departments of city and county governments.
Besides farmer support projects, Gyeonggi Province is also promoting the ‘Livestock Farmer Income Increase Consulting’ project, which analyzes the Hanwoo genome for premium meat to help increase farmers’ income. In particular, through the ‘Private Cooperation for Hanwoo Embryo Transfer Activation’ project, farmers and private entities will be supported to independently utilize Hanwoo embryo transfer technology and participate in breeding improvement.
Moreover, Gyeonggi Province promotes the excellence of Gyeonggi Hanwoo through the annual ‘Hanwoo Ability Competition’.
