Seoul National University Establishes Quantum Research Center... Leading the Advanced Industry
Completed Official Establishment Procedures
Seoul National University has established the 'Seoul National University Quantum Research Group' to revitalize research in the quantum field. With the establishment of this research group, the university plans to enhance international recognition in the quantum technology sector and seize leadership in advanced industrial fields.
Seoul National University announced on the 6th that it has completed the formal procedures for establishing the Seoul National University Quantum Research Group. Quantum science and technology is a core area of advanced industry expected to have a tremendous impact across all sectors of society, from the economy to defense and security. The government also selected quantum science as one of the national strategic technologies in October 2022 and is focusing on its development.
In September last year, Seoul National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research and technology development cooperation with IDQ (ID Quantique), a global quantum cryptography company. In December, a letter of intent signing ceremony was held with IBM, a global quantum computer company, and five universities from Korea, the US, and Japan (University of Chicago, University of Tokyo, Keio University, Seoul National University, and Yonsei University) for mutual cooperation in quantum education. These efforts continue to promote research in quantum science and technology and nurture quantum specialists. Currently, discussions are underway to hold a quantum camp for joint symposiums and global quantum specialist exchanges with the University of Chicago.
Seoul National University expects that the establishment of the Quantum Research Group will actively support joint research among quantum researchers scattered across various fields within the university.
