Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is fostering 'Yongin Jungang Market,' a representative traditional market in the area, as a leading cultural and tourism product of the region.

Yongin City announced on the 5th that Yongin Jungang Market in Kimryangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu, has been selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' '2024 Specialized Market Development Project' contest, and plans to develop the area into a 'cultural tourism market' by next year.
A 'cultural tourism market' is a themed tourist market where visitors can enjoy the resources of traditional markets along with the region's history, culture, and tourism assets.
The city plans to invest a total of 840 million KRW, including 420 million KRW from the national government and 420 million KRW from the city, to develop the market as a representative traditional market not only locally but also in the southern metropolitan area.
To this end, Yongin Jungang Market will develop unique specialty products and experience programs to strengthen its brand, and attract younger generations through ICT convergence marketing such as issuing coupons linked with tourism resources.
Additionally, the city will encourage citizen participation through events like children's flea markets, traditional liquor festivals, and regular night markets, and will create infrastructure for the specialized market by supporting education and facility costs for startups.
To enhance merchants' marketing capabilities, the city will operate academies on how to utilize online shopping and nurture youth-run stores to strengthen the market's self-sustainability.
Previously, Yongin Jungang Market was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's urban regeneration project in 2022, and the city is currently investing a total of 65.2 billion KRW to expand parking spaces and create youth cultural spaces.
