"Invisible but Fun to Show"... Dongseo University Webtoon Department Wins 'Intangible Heritage' Competition

2 Teams Awarded Excellence and Encouragement Prizes, LINC 3.0 Project Group Modular Adventure Design Achievements
Students from the Webtoon Department at Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) won the Excellence Award and Encouragement Award at the "2nd University Student UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Promotion Idea Competition."
Two teams of first-year students recently participated in this competition hosted by the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation and each received awards.
The competition was organized to solicit innovative business ideas that allow future generations to easily and enjoyably engage with our intangible cultural heritage. It was open to domestic and international university (graduate) students, with a total of 70 teams participating.

View original imageOvercoming a competition rate of 14 to 1, five teams advanced to the finals. Recently, at the House of Korea in Jung-gu, Seoul, the finalists presented their projects and underwent expert evaluation, resulting in the selection of one Grand Prize team, two Excellence Award teams, and two Encouragement Award teams.
The team of students Kim Hwimin and Kim Yeonwoo, who received the Excellence Award, gained attention for their mobile game content planning that connects the past, present, and future of Jeju Haenyeo.
They aimed to convey various aspects of the intangible cultural heritage of Jeju Haenyeo through their content. Kim Hwimin and Kim Yeonwoo said, "The experience of writing and presenting content plans learned during class was a great help."
They added, "We plan to continue activities to plan and produce webtoon content themed around intangible cultural heritage."
The team of Jeong Dain and Lee Gyeol, who won the Encouragement Award, presented a creative idea under the theme "Reincarnated into the Intangible Cultural Heritage Webtoon Museum."
They shared their award remarks, saying, "The experiences and communications we had during this competition will greatly aid our creative activities, and we plan to continuously develop our ideas."

The Webtoon Department at Dongseo University plans to nurture versatile webtoon artists and PDs by broadening their expertise as webtoon creators and providing comprehensive education in content planning and presentation based on webtoons and storytelling.
