A Foreign Worker in His 50s Dies After Being Hit by a Broken Steel Cable at a Casting Factory in Haman
A foreign worker died after being struck by a broken steel cable at a foundry manufacturing plant in Haman, Gyeongnam.
According to the Haman Police Station and the Gyeongnam branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 1st, at around 4:10 PM on November 30th, a steel cable of an overhead crane carrying a 50-ton metal casting broke at a foundry manufacturing company in Gunbuk-myeon, Haman-gun.
As a result of the accident, a Pakistani foreign worker in his 50s, Mr. A, who was working nearby for a subcontractor, was hit in the chest by the steel cable that snapped and recoiled.
Mr. A was urgently transported to the hospital by paramedics who arrived on the scene but ultimately passed away.
Police investigations revealed that Mr. A was an undocumented immigrant.
The company is understood not to be subject to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act as it has fewer than 50 regular employees.
