Hanwha Systems Signs Agreement for Rapid Demonstration Project of Commercial Low Earth Orbit Satellite Military Communication System
Contract Signed with Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Institute Worth 39.8 Billion KRW
Hanwha Systems has signed an agreement worth 39.8 billion KRW with the Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute under the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) to promote a military communication system construction project using low Earth orbit satellites.
According to Hanwha Systems on the 29th, under the agreement, the Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute and Hanwha Systems will conduct research and development on a military-dedicated gateway (which allocates network resources between satellites and satellite communication terminals and authenticates connections) and small base stations for utilizing commercial low Earth orbit communication satellites by November 2025.
The military plans to verify the military applicability through a six-month pilot operation after development.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration selected the commercial low Earth orbit satellite-based communication system as a rapid research and development project in February. Once the low Earth orbit satellite-based communication system is established, it is expected to improve military operational capabilities by resolving communication outages in mountainous areas that occur during ground-based communication system operations.
