Dobong-gu Launches 'Changdong Cleaners' Project to Create Cleaner Shopping Districts
Dobong-gu, Changdong Station Merchants Association, Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation Participate to Improve Pedestrian Environment through 'Jumpping'
Activities Conducted on November 23, Two More Sessions Planned by Year-End
Dobong-gu is launching an initiative to create a clean Changdong Station shopping district for the year-end and New Year period.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that following the spring cleaning in March, it will promote the ‘Changdong Cleaners (Cleaners, Clean earth)’ campaign at the end of this year to establish a trash-free Changdong Station shopping district.
The ‘Changdong Cleaners’ campaign is a public-private-community joint project designed to make the Changdong Station shopping district, frequently visited by residents, a pleasant and safe environment.
The activities will be carried out through “jupging” (a combination of “jupda” meaning picking up and “jogging”), where participants walk around the eastern area of Changdong Station shopping district picking up trash. Dobong-gu, the Changdong Station Merchants Association, and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation will participate together.
When the campaign resumed on November 23, it was centered around Nohae-ro 69-gil. About 20 participants gathered to organize obstacles threatening pedestrian safety such as abandoned motorcycles and stalls, and collected harmful advertisements including illegal flyers.
Additionally, the campaign included promotional activities for the Changdong Station shopping district and distributed materials raising awareness about gentrification, striving to create an image of a commercial area that people want to revisit.
The district plans to conduct two more activities focused around Madeul-ro 11ga-gil by the end of the year.
