Dongseo University and Seore Develop and Demonstrate Advanced AI-Based 'Recyclable Waste Classifier'
The LINC 3.0 Project Group at Dongseo University recently co-developed the AI recycling waste sorter ‘WIMPLE-BIN’ in industry-academic cooperation with its family company ‘Seoreu’.
The two organizations have been continuously collaborating to develop practical products that meet the demand for recycling waste sorting.
Recently, the product ‘WIMPLE-BIN,’ developed through the local government-industry-academia network, was installed in the central mall of the Seomyeon underground shopping center in connection with the Busan Facilities Corporation, and full-scale demonstration work has begun.
The recycling waste sorter WIMPLE-BIN is a product created by combining Seoreu’s artificial intelligence technology and the efforts of professors and students from various fields at Dongseo University, with joint work from development to design and promotional video production.
Starting with the initial development of a deep learning-based AI recycling collection bin and app through ‘industry-academic joint technology development,’ the product design and visual work were improved through ‘design support’ and the ‘DSU Industry-Academia Cooperation Win-Win Program.’ Subsequently, the first production was completed through the ‘Class Selling’ program, and the second video production is currently underway.
WIMPLE-BIN accurately distinguishes between recyclable and non-recyclable waste using AI vision technology. Compared to recycling vending machines (RVM), this sorter offers higher sorting accuracy and cost-effectiveness, significantly contributing to environmental protection.
Additionally, it can sort all recyclable waste and has the major advantage of being installable at 10% of the cost of existing RVMs.
Officials from Dongseo University, Seoreu, and Busan Facilities Corporation are installing Wimplebean in Seomyeon Central Mall and taking a group commemorative photo.

The two organizations plan to expand installation to various public places in cooperation with local governments and institutions, starting with the development and demonstration of this recycling waste sorter.
Jonghyuk Lee, CEO of Seoreu, said, “The introduction of WIMPLE-BIN will revolutionarily solve the issue of separated waste collection in public places,” adding, “An increase in recycling rates will lead to higher sales revenue from recycled raw materials and reduced waste disposal costs, which is expected to bring significant economic benefits to society.”
