[Hot Stock] Lycom Rises on News of US Company Testing 6G Satellite Communication-Compatible Optical Amplifier
Lycom is showing strong performance. This is interpreted as being influenced by the news that it has completed supplying samples to a US company to apply its self-developed optical amplifier to low Earth orbit satellite communications and other 6G communications.
As of 2:50 PM on the 20th, Lycom is trading at 3,700 KRW, up 26.8% compared to the previous day.
According to the industry on the day, the samples provided by Lycom to the US company will undergo various tests to apply optical amplifiers to 6G communications. Once product verification is completed, it is expected to be applicable in the low Earth orbit satellite sector.
While 5G uses base stations for information transmission and reception, 6G uses satellite communications. Satellite communication is structured to transmit and receive information based on laser signals using a Laser Communication Terminal (LCT). In 6G, the reach of optical signals decreases compared to existing equipment, so signals need to be amplified through optical amplifiers. This makes the optical amplifier an essential component for the LCT to ensure accurate information delivery.
To commercialize 6G via satellite communication, latency must be reduced. Compared to geostationary orbit, low Earth orbit satellites shorten the physical radio wave round-trip time and reduce costs, making them suitable for 6G satellite communications. Core technologies for low Earth orbit satellite communications include transmission and reception performance, cost, lightweight, and miniaturization technologies.
Lycom was the first in the world to independently develop the ultra-compact optical amplifier 'SFP+ EDFA' using the PNP (Plug and Play) method. The SFP+ EDFA is the smallest among commercialized optical amplifiers, maximizing cost reduction and space efficiency. Its low power consumption results in less heat generation, which is also an advantage, and it can be installed without additional devices in already established systems.
